What damage type is Gunlance? ›

Weapon Features. Unlike the lance, the gunlance does not utilize "piercing" damage. Every attack involving the lance portion of the weapon strictly uses the cutting damage modifier. The Gunlance provides the hunter with Shielding capability which is as good as a Lance user due to the size of the shields.

The shelling damage of the gunlance is based off of the weapon's shell level and type, and can only be boosted by things like the above. Affinity affects shells by the tiniest ittiest amount.

Shelling increases based on shelling level, artillery skill (the armor skill), dango artillery, and sneak attack. The different shelling types also affects damage in different ways.

Sharpness Also Affects Shelling

For the Gunlance, shelling damage is affected by sharpness. It deals less damage as the sharpness goes down a level. Damage for the Gunlance can be improved through Artillery.

Bombardier Skill only affects bomb items (barrel bomb, mega barrel bomb, etc.) Artillery affects gunlance Wyvern fire and Bowgun Wyvern Ammo as well.

The number one advantage of shells is that they deal set damage to a monster (both physical and Fire element), regardless of their defense or the hardness of what part you fired at. This makes breaking tough parts easy and enemies like Gravios a moving shooting target. This is what makes Gunlance powerful.

Summary: Solomon is the skill focused Shell, with 10/10 in the resolve stat. But he also sports the second highest health and stamina, making him the Shell with the best stat total.

Each Gunlance possess one of three different types of shells - Normal, Long, and Wide. The shell types differ in damage, ammo capacity, area of effect, and have different shelling bonuses. For example, Normal shells receive a bonus to Burst Fire, whereas Long shells have a bonus to Charged Shelling.
