At Rizvi Dental, Dr. Tahira Rizvi and her team offer comprehensive and compassionate care in a comfortable setting while emphasizing clinical excellence, the latest technology, an overall wellness approach and evidence-based dentistry.
Dr. Tahira Rizvi graduated from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2017 and has been serving South Jersey ever since. In 2022, she became the owner of Zonies-Holgado Dental Associates, which has ties in the community for over 50 years, including the past three decades in Cherry Hill.
Now known as Rizvi Dental, it remains committed to its longstanding patients as well as new ones discovering its welcoming atmosphere for the first time.
“Since I was in dental school, I always wanted to have my own practice,” Dr. Rizvi says. “It was about creating a calmer environment and not a typical dental-office feel. I wanted a boutique-style practice based on the concept of excellent patient care on a personal level.
“My own experiences motivated me and led me to the kind of dentistry I want to practice. It’s one thing to drill, fill and bill, and it’s another thing to build relationships with the patients, where they feel comfortable and overcome their fear of getting dental work done."
Dr. Rizvi is passionate about staying up to date with all the latest advancements and technologies in dentistry. Every year she invests in around 200 hours of continuing education and is constantly honing her skills and adopting new techniques. She is an active member of the American Dental Association, NJ Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, among other professional associations. She is an avid student of KOIS, one of the world’s most respected dental curriculum programs located in Seattle.
Trained in the most modern and advanced restorative and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Rizvi enjoys establishing meaningful doctor-patient relationships. Keeping up with the most current trends in dental medicine, she utilizes the most advanced technologies. Her practice is fully digital, with CBCT (cone beam computed topography) for advanced jaw imaging, an intra oral scanner, and an in-house lab with a dental 3D printer.
“Technology makes results more predictable and precise while making appointments less stressful and more enjoyable for the patients,” she says.
Rizvi Dental runs the gamut of dental services, from regular checkups and cleanings to dental implants, oral surgery, periodontal treatment, clear aligners, and much more. Having knowledge and experience in many areas allows for greater convenience for the patient. The practice has also established important relationships throughout the area and will collaborate with surgeons and specialists if necessary.
Dr. Rizvi also recognizes how oral health can be connected to overall well-being and will often refer patients to doctors outside of dentistry. Her comprehensive exams have led to patients receiving crucial and often life-saving treatment for GI disorders, sleep apnea and cardiovascular issues.
“According to research, there are 72 diseases that can be linked to your oral health,” she says. “The gut starts with your oral cavity, so it is very connected. A lot of times, we are not just treating a cavity: I always try to educate patients about why they’re having a cavity, because sometimes you see patients with excellent oral hygiene but they’re still getting cavities. It could be the saliva in the mouth, genetics, how the patient’s chemistry is, how their oral microbes are. I talk about how to maintain a neutral PH in your mouth, how to maintain good microbes, and we prescribe a lot of oral probiotics and neutralizing toothpaste. I like to educate the patient on the biology behind it.”
While Dr. Rizvi has certainly brought changes to the practice, many of the same staff members who have been serving the community for years have stayed on board. The newer employees follow their lead and aim to make patients comfortable as soon as they walk through the door.
Perhaps that’s why so many patients have continued to trust them with their dental care for so long. For Dr. Rizvi, a married mother of two who resides in Moorestown, being that dependable dentist for local families never gets old.
“We have a lot of multigenerational patients: The grandparents started with the original Dr. Zonies and now their kids and grandkids are here. It’s like a family and we enjoy it,” she says.
“To me, it’s not just about giving them the beautiful smile, but also the function, healthy mouths and beautiful smiles! If your function is improved, it’s long-lasting and it looks beautiful, and that’s the cherry on top.”
